Hello! My name is Laura and welcome to my journey to freelance! I look forward to creating amazing things with you!
I am currently working as an emergency medical technician in the city of Hartford, CT. However, that was not the original plan. I went to school to study history, where my love affair with writing began. Prior to college, I felt lost. Everyone had their “thing” — an interest, passion, or natural talent that led them to their next step after high school. However, I never felt drawn to any particular interest, either naturally or intellectually. I felt like a “jack of all trades, master of none.” After a few bumpy college semesters, I realized the only classes I was truly enjoying and excelling at were my history classes. So I officially declared my major to be History, a less practical but much more personally fulfilling choice.
When the writing assignments started rolling in, increasing in length and detail as the semesters wore on, I found myself to be highly motivated instead of overwhelmed. I realized, for once, I was confident and adept at a skill - writing. And, as an added bonus, I enjoyed it. From the information gathering, to the framing and outlining, to the actual writing work, I found that the process flowed easily and left me feeling satisfied and creatively charged.
After graduation, my focus shifted to more indulgent fiction writing, the writing that I craved during my time in college but never had the time to explore. But while my creative drive grew, but my bank account did not. I needed a solid job that paid me well enough to continue my creative hobbies on the side, while still providing a sense of fulfillment. I ventured into the emergency medical services in 2011, and have been there ever since.
However, I recently realized that over the years, not only has my drive to create content diminished, but the harsh environment of EMS has drained my creative soul. I began putting forth a concentrated effort to pursue more expressive endeavors in my time off, but my time and energy for it was severely diminished. My time in the ambulance has been hard on my body, mind, and spirit, and I decided that the time to transition to a gentler, more creative career has arrived.
Always the go-to person to review a written piece for grammar and structure before submission, I realized that I have something special to offer content creators while I pursue my own original content. Personal, professional, or academic, any written piece you put out into the world is a representation of you. Allow me to polish the diamond in the rough, so the world can see you shine.
